6. Tobias Harris

Why he’ll make it:

The losses of Jimmy Butler and J.J. Redick will free up plenty of looks for Tobias Harris, who often played the role of fourth or even fifth banana with the Philadelphia 76ers last year. Josh Richardson and Al Horford will take some of those shot attempts, of course, but the Sixers are going to desperately need the 3-point shooting Harris can provide.

After canning 43.4 percent of his 3s with the Los Angeles Clippers, Harris’ long-range efficiency plummeted to 32.6 percent in his 27 appearances with Philly. That can’t happen again this year, but with a more assertive role on offense, and given the Sixers’ standing as one of the two best teams in the East entering the new season, Harris could very well sneak onto a wide-open All-Star roster. Don’t forget, he was deserving of an All-Star berth last year before changing conferences midseason.

Why he won’t make it:

The Sixers will only warrant three All-Stars if they have a top-two record in the East and if Harris is the undisputed third banana this time around. The first benchmark is no guarantee if Joel Embiid misses any time, and the second could easily swing the other way depending on how Brett Brown utilizes Horford and Richardson.

Embiid and Ben Simmons have pretty clear paths to All-Star selections in 2020, but Harris’ may require a bit more twists and turns for him to get there as the Sixers’ third option.
