PGA DFS: CJ Cup Course Preview, Stats and Value Plays

Relax…. No Zack Sucher this week, and possibly for the rest of eternity. That was harsh and I apologize if you played him last Thursday as I did. Hopefully, you took advantage of Mark Hubbard and Xinjun Zhang who both did great at T2 and T4. Below are 4 picks from the low tier since we have a shortened 78 player field.

Jazz Janewattananond

Jazzy has made a little name for himself and a cult following across the globe. He has spent the majority of 2019 on the Asian Tour but has appeared at the PGA Championship and most recently at The Open Championship representing his homeland of Thailand. Jazz is 2nd in scoring average on the Asian Tour at 68.73. He has made 4 consecutive cuts on that Tour with 3 Top tens, the most recent a T4th at the Panasonic Open. He is converting 60% of sand saves, Scrambling at 67%- this coupled with a 295-yard driving distance average at 68% accuracy. Jazz is currently 1st on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and coming in hot ranking 6th in Par 4 efficiency among the field between 350-400 yards. I like him as a sneaky pick this week given his familiarity with the surrounding region having won the Korea Open earlier this June at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.

Brian Stuard

We last saw Stuard at the Shriners where he was in contention the majority of the weekend. During those 4 days he gained a ridiculous 11.1 Strokes Gained total, good for a T4. Over his last 5 events, he has a positive differential of 2.4 SG Tee to Green, 1.9 Approach and is currently ranked in the top 30 among this strong field in Par 5 efficiency. Needless to say he’s been on quite a hot streak having made the cut in the last 3 events, but Stuard has been gaining a bunch of strokes on Bentgrass greens, this is the most impressive quality for me. He will come into this event for the first time right after the Shriners which had similar greens and should feel comfortable right off the bat at least over the flat stick. Where he has been lacking is his driving accuracy, but at a course where fairways are seemingly easier to find, I don’t envision this being an issue.
