Fantasy football lineup advice – Quarterback

BOOM:

Josh Allen, BUF vs. MIA

Allen has had a somewhat quiet start to the season, breaking the 20-point plateau just once through five games. However, his legs have provided him a safe floor, dropping under 16 fantasy points in just one game where he suffered a concussion against the Patriots. His schedule to this point hasn’t done him any favors, but as a player that posted QB1 numbers down the stretch last season, there should be better days ahead for the second-year gunslinger.

That begins this week with Allen drawing a mouthwatering matchup against the winless Dolphins. Only the Arizona Cardinals have surrendered more fantasy points to opposing signal-callers, and as Miami continues to tank their season away, Allen should be in for his biggest game yet. He offers one of the highest ceilings at the QB position this week.

BUST:

Kirk Cousins, MIN @ DET

Over the past two weeks, Cousins has given his best “See? I don’t suck at football” impression. He’s now notched back-to-back games over 20 fantasy points, but he’s far from out of the fantasy doghouse after averaging just 10.7 points over his first four starts. It should be noted that Cousins has done his recent damage against the Giants and Eagles, two bottom-five defenses against the pass.

Going against an underrated Lions’ secondary on the road, Cousins should come back down to Earth in Week 7. The Lions rank middle-of-the-pack against the quarterback position, but have stepped up their game at home, allowing just 14.4 FPPG in matchups at Ford Field (including a matchup against Patrick Mahomes). The Vikings are still a run-first team, an area the Lions have been susceptible to this season, allowing 31.2 FPPG to tailbacks (third-most in the league).

Sleeper:

Jimmy Garoppolo, SF @ WSH

Leading San Francisco to a flawless record of 5-0 thus far, Garoppolo has mustered an average of only 13.9 FPPG through five games, but he’s taken what the defense has given him on a run-heavy 49ers’ approach. Now with all of his pass-catching weapons healthy and in a rhythm, Jimmy G could provide owners with adequate numbers versus a Redskins team that’s ceded the 10th-most FPPG to QBs this year.
