Fantasy football lineup advice – Tight End

BOOM:

Hunter Henry, LAC @ TEN

Back so soon, huh? After it was originally assumed Henry’s knee injury would cost him a 4-8 week timetable with the latter being the likelier scenario, the budding tight-end was back in action against the Steelers, exploding onto the scene with eight catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to Sunday night, Henry was available in over 50 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, something that’ll quickly change. Coming into the season, he was a popular breakout candidate, and he proved why in his return.

More from Fantasy Football

An upcoming matchup with the Titans shouldn’t scare owners from plugging the 24-year-old back into their lineups. Tennessee isn’t as strong as they once were against TEs, allowing the 13th-most FPPG to position through six weeks. While this doesn’t appear to be a smash-spot for Henry, his heavy usage (nine targets in Week 6) provides him a safe floor to pair with his immense upside. On a struggling Chargers’ offense, they should again lean on Henry to move the chains.

BUST:

T.J. Hockenson, DET vs. MIN

Hockenson has been relatively quiet after a monster season-opener where he went for 25.1 fantasy points versus the Cardinals. As history has proven many times, first-year tight-ends generally have tough time fantasy contributors on a weekly basis. That’s been the case with Hockenson. Since Week 1, he’s gathered a total of just 20.6 points in four games. In his last go-around against the Packers, the rookie saw a handful of opportunities but failed to capitalize on them.

The Minnesota Vikings have allowed the sixth-most points to TEs up this point, but have really begun to buckle-down on the position in recent matchups. Against Philadelphia last week, they managed to subdue Zach Ertz to just 54 yards on four catches. As inconsistent as he’s been, Hockenson is merely a desperation start at best this week.

Sleeper:

Jason Witten, DAL vs. PHI

Like Gallup, Witten is another player who should see an uptick in targets with Amari Cooper sidelined. The 16-year veteran hasn’t been a world-beater in his age-37 season (he’s topped 12 fantasy points just once), but his consistency at a watered-down tight-end position currently has him as the overall TE10 on the year, nonetheless. Opposing teams have mercilessly pounded the Eagles through the air this season, giving Witten some starting appeal in Week 7.
