DFS Advice – Running Backs to Sit

Adrian Peterson (WSH) vs. SF

While the legendary veteran had quite the afternoon against the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday rushing for 118 yards, we must consider who he was facing up against. The Dolphins possess one of the worst run defenses in the league with not many playmakers to stand in Peterson’s way. Now the Redskins will be hosting a young but talented San Francisco 49ers front that is fifth in rushing yards allowed to hostile backfields. I’m not expecting Peterson to have much of an effect in this game as the Redskins will likely fall behind quickly and abandon the run to try and play catchup like they usually have been doing this season.

Tarik Cohen (CHI) vs. NO

2019 has been pretty disappointing for Tarik Cohen and anyone who may have him on their fantasy rosters. The selection of David Montgomery in this year’s draft has played a significant role in Cohen’s production drop. Between the two backs, it is almost an even split for their snap share percentages with Montgomery having a slight edge at 56.2%. Furthermore, the Saints are very good at shutting down pass-catching backs allowing 34.7 yards per game. The loss of starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is also not doing any favors for Cohen’s fantasy stock as well.

Sony Michel (NE) @ NYJ

I know it seems pretty shocking to have Michel on this list and it’s not because of his talent but because of how the Patriots have used him this year. He’s currently receiving under 50.0% of the team’s offensive snap shares (43.9%) and has been up and down the board with fantasy points produced. The Jets have actually not been too bad against the run allowing 83.0 yards per game to enemy backfields. With the possibility of C.J. Mosley returning to the New York front this week, Michel’s chances of doing significant damage against the Jets seem murky at best.
