NBA Preseason DFS: Thursday, 10/17 – Herro Ball
By Dan Palyo
NBA Preseason DFS: Dallas @ L.A. Clippers
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks will take on the Clippers in Vancouver, Canada tonight as both teams play their final preseason game. Dallas has surprisingly been forthcoming with their plans for playing time in the preseason so we will hopefully have an update well before lock, but as of right now it seems they will run their main guys out there. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis have been a powerful 1-2 combination this preseason are solid plays tonight with decent minutes.
Maxi Kleber is an interesting punt play with Dwight Powell continuing to be out, but there aren’t many “role players” that I will be targeting on this Dallas team with Luke and Kristaps eating up most of the possessions on offense. Tim Hardaway Jr. is going to be a GPP play just about every night as a scoring option off the bench, but certainly not one that can be trusted.
Top Plays: Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis
Secondary Plays: Maxi Kleber, Tim Hardaway Jr.
L.A. Clippers
The biggest question here is “will Kawhi Leonard play tonight.” He was rested on Sunday, so he should be ready to play but he has been the most delicately-handled NBA player in recent memory with “load management.” in the last couple of years. With this game being played in Canada there is the narrative that he wants to play for the gracious Canadian fans after winning a title with Toronto last year, but even so, he could still end up playing only a half or something. I’m leery.
Lou Williams and Montrez Harrell are my other top two targets, but neither of them has played many minutes this preseason. The Clippers have some interesting young players in Terrance Mann, Jerome Robinson, and Landry Shamet who have been in the rotation but none of them stand out as great plays, especially if Patrick Beverley ends up suiting up. This is another team I’m generally staying away from.
Top Plays: Kawhi Leonard (if he plays)
Secondary Plays: Montrez Harrell
