Minnesota Timberwolves: KAT against the world

There’s been some speculation that Andrew Wiggins is due for a breakout, bounce-back season, but you don’t believe really that. He didn’t exactly light the world on fire after Jimmy Butler left, and if that day was ever coming, we probably would’ve seen it by now.

And yes, the Minnesota Timberwolves have some intriguing, defensive-minded wings between Robert Covington, Josh Okogie and Jarrett Culver… but two of them probably won’t be ready to contribute to playoff-caliber basketball just yet

No, the real reason you’ll be tuning in for Wolves games in 2019-20 is to watch Karl-Anthony Towns try to take on the world by himself. The guy who was called soft by his superstar teammate, the guy who put up a 25-13-4 stat line on .529/.399/.823 shooting splits after Butler was traded, is fully, unquestionably in charge from day one this time. It’s his team again.

It’s time for KAT to be better on defense. It’s time for him to start submitting legendary seasons that put him among the league’s elite superstars. His supporting cast is less than ideal for building an actual MVP case or a playoff berth, but watching Towns seize the reins makes Minnesota worth keeping an eye on.
