Dallas Mavericks: A new dynamic duo

As if Luka Doncic weren’t enough reason to watch the Dallas Mavericks, now they’re adding a healthy Kristaps Porzingis to the mix.

The Mavs failed to land that big free agency fish they’ve been waiting on for about a decade now, settling instead for retaining a mundane supporting cast and adding a few minor, complementary pieces like Delon Wright, Seth Curry and Boban Marjanovic.

And yet, their offseason was still seen as a success overall, since they were able to lock Porzingis down for the long haul after trading for him midseason. There are understandable concerns about a 7-foot-3 big man coming off an ACL tear, but if he’s really back to 100 percent, the Mavs could very well boast the most dynamic young duo in the NBA — international or domestic alike.

The Unicorn looked confident in his preseason debut, even as he shook off some rust with 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting. Opponents are going to have a nightmarish time stifling these two in pick-and-rolls, and between Doncic’s craftiness and creativity and Porzingis’ athleticism and refined skill-set, this duo is going to be a joy to watch.
