1. Eli Manning

The Eli Manning era is over in New York, mercifully in a lot of respects, and rookie Daniel Jones is the guy for the Giants now. The two-time Super Bowl MVP will only see the field again this season if Jones is injured, so he stands as an available trade target for teams who may wind up with a need with less than two weeks to go before the deadline.

Manning’s physical skills have been in decline for a few years now. But he would be just the kind of savvy veteran Andy Reid would like to have if Mahomes misses a chunk of games.

Manning set a career-high by completing 66 percent of his passes last year running Pat Shurmur’s offense in New York last year, and his yards per completion went up to 11.3. Shurmur is a disciple of Reid’s, going back to Reid’s first year as Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach, serving as tight ends/offensive line coach (1999-2001) and quarterbacks coach (2002-2008) under him there.

Manning stands as the safest option for the Chiefs if Mahomes misses some games. All he has to do is know where to go with the ball and get it to a good set of weapons, and Reid can surely design plays to make that easy for him to accomplish.
