4. Oregon Ducks

Rank: 12 | Opponent: 25 Washington Huskies | Time: Saturday, Oct. 19, 3:30 p.m. ET

The Pac-12 has been a battle royale this season. Just when it seems like one team is emerging as one of the favorites to win the conference, they suffer a tough conference loss that throws everything up in the air once again. The one exception to that, however, has been the Oregon Ducks, who have only their season-opening loss to Auburn on their record this season and have opened conference play with a 3-0 record in the Pac-12.

Having said that, Oregon now has to go to Seattle on Saturday afternoon for their toughest test since that Auburn matchup, taking on the No. 25 ranked Washington Huskies. Washington has been quite inconsistent with Jacob Eason taking over the offense, losing games to California and Stanford while looking dominant in other tricky games against BYU and USC. It’s hard to know what to make of them in a given week.

If you’re trying to dispel the possibility of an upset in this game, you’d certainly look at the way Oregon has played defensively in recent weeks, even if Justin Herbert and the offense have been playing. Since losing to Auburn, the Ducks have not allowed more than 10 points in a game this season, even holding an explosive Colorado team to three points. Against the rollercoaster Huskies offense, that could spell trouble for Washington.

Having said that, the talent with guys like Eason and Aaron Fuller is obvious for Washington. Furthermore, their defense — though also inconsistent — has proven to be stifling at times this season. If they can feed off of the home crowd in Seattle and not submit another letdown performance, the Huskies could throw off Oregon’s momentum and hand them their first Pac-12 loss of 2019.
