Evening DraftKings college football quarterback picks October 19

Top Tier:

Tua is automatic no matter who Alabama plays, but Anthony Gordon is actually averaging more DraftKings points per game than Tua. Why? It’s simple, really. He plays all four quarters. Tua hasn’t had to yet, even though he did last week against A&M. I prefer Gordon’s matchup to Tua as well, but his gunslinger attitude and lack of running ability make him less of a sure thing.

Texas wont really need Sam Ehlinger against Kansas, so I’m in no hurry to use him. I’d rather pocket the money and use Jamie Newman instead. That is, if he starts. Even then, the sore shoulder is a bit of a concern. Kellen Mond is safer against an Ole Miss team that was run ragged by Kelly Bryant last week.

Middle Tier:

In my recap piece I expressed concerns over the decision making of Khalil Tate. He’s still an elite athlete against a USC team that’s weakness is the secondary. Tate could be a nice, somewhat sneaky, pick here.

After a fast start, Steven Montez has been held below 18 DraftKings points in three of the last four games by Air Force, Arizona, and Oregon. That just means we get him at a discount against one of the worst pass defenses known to football in Washington State. Montez is going to at least flirt with 30 DraftKings points and could even go over that if this game turns into a track meet.

Bargain Shoppers:

The price is right to give Sam Hartman a look if Newman is out. This Florida State secondary is still a weakness, and Hartman is a very good passer. He just can’t run like Newman. If Hartman starts, I love him for the price against Florida State.

Going lower at quarterback is living dangerously, but Carter Stanley could be a sneaky good pick against a beaten and broken Texas defense. Of course, I’ve used Stanley against bad defenses before and he has been downright terrible. There’s a ton of risk involved, but Stanley’s upside is really good for the price.
