Evening DraftKings college football running back picks October 19

Top Tier:

It has been a tough couple of weeks for Cam Akers, and the uncertainty at quarterback still doesn’t help that. However, Wake’s run defense leaves a lot to be desired. Akers has had big games this year, but they didn’t need him much against NC State and Florida State had to abandon the run against Clemson. This is where Akers gets his name back out there.

Even if Washington State doesn’t run the ball, Max Borghi always has a place in this offense. Borghi has at least five receptions in three of the last four games. The all-purpose yards are why you play Borghi, and there should be a lot of them available against Colorado.

Middle Tier:

This is a place where I don’t think Texas will go overboard using Keaontay Ingram. They won’t need to. I really like Roschon Johnson here though. He was the better back against Oklahoma and should be here as well.

This isn’t a knock on Ingram. I just think Texas had to rush Ingram to get ready because they literally had no other backs at the beginning of the season. Now Texas can let Ingram rest up some and get healthy where he couldn’t really be in August.

While it is true that Alex Fontenot has not rushed for more than 100 yards since the opener, he has still been a big part of the offense. The volume is what has me chasing this. Volume against Washington’s State’s porous defense could be huge. I fully expect Fontenot to go over 100 yards in this one.

Bargain Shoppers:

Penn State finally has had someone emerge as the horse of that backfield. Noah Cain has gone over 100 yards in back to back games, and given how Michigan couldn’t stop Jonathan Taylor, there’s a good chance Cain at least gets close to 100 yards.

Isaiah Spiller‘s return last week against Alabama was to so little fanfare that you may not have even noticed. That was mostly because of the Alabama defense. Ole Miss was gouged by Missouri on the ground last week. I think Spiller has a huge game for the price here.

With Malepaei out, Stephen Carr could see a lot of carries against an Arizona defense that can’t really stop anyone. Markese Stepp ended up splitting carries with Carr last week and arguably ran better. There’s no official word out of Trojans camp, but if I had to only pick one, it would be Stepp.
