Fantasy football rankings – Running Backs

Admittedly, running back wasn’t my best position in week six. A few guys had some surprising breakout performances while some fantasy studs had lackluster days.

I was just a couple spots off on top 10 running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Chris Carson and just about a handful away on guys like Leonard Fournette, Adrian Peterson, Ronald Jones, and LeSean McCoy. I also predicted a good week out of Adrian Peterson who even outperformed my expectations.

My favorite play of the week, Mark Ingram, didn’t come through as I had hoped, with Lamar Jackson stealing the show against Cincinnati. He wound up RB14 after being top four in my rankings.

Dalvin Cook, Alvin Kamara, Derrick Henry, Joe Mixon, Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler struggled mightily in week six. James Conner, David Johnson, Devonta Freeman, Jamaal Williams, Miles Sanders, and Carlos Hyde all broke through with surprising top 10 performances in ESPN PPR scoring.

I went with a running back against the Bengals as my favorite play last week and it didn’t quite pan out. But the guy this week doesn’t have a quarterback who runs like a running back on his team, so I think Leonard Fournette will get all the run in the world this week and will completely scorch the Cincy D on his way to RB1 for week seven.

Dalvin Cook will look to get back on track against division rival Detroit. Welcome back Saquon Barkley! No matter the scenario, Saquon will pretty much always be a top three fantasy play given his ability as a runner and as a receiver.

David Johnson will look to stay hot opposite of Saquon in the Giants/Cardinals game I’ve highlighted a lot already. Both backs are great receivers out of the backfield and should find a way to contribute no matter how the game goes. Josh Jacobs rounds out the top five. Many people may have a short memory following his bye week, but Jacobs is coming off of a game where he lit up the CHICAGO BEARS DEFENSE. The Packers run D should be a cakewalk by comparison.

This is the final straw for Joe Mixon. if he doesn’t show up against a Jags defense that just lost it’s best player it may be time to stash him away on the bench. But I think the Jags may make a concerted effort to stop the passing game with Jalen Ramsey now traded away, leaving room for Mixon to make some moves for a much needed solid fantasy day.

Other RBs that I like this week include Derrick Henry vs LAC, Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida vs WAS, Devonta Freeman vs LAR, Frank Gore/Devin Singletary vs MIA, and Wendell Smallwood vs SF.

Running backs that I may try to avoid in week seven include Kerryon Johnson vs MIN, Adrian Peterson vs SF, Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler vs TEN, and Kenyan Drake vs BUF.
