2. Joe Burrow, QB, LSU

It was quite the slow start for Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers as they went on the road to face Mississippi State coming off the hugely important win over Florida. While they scored on each of their three opening drives, Burrow couldn’t push the offense into the end zone. However, he found his groove in the second quarter in beyond, looking more like the player that established himself as a front-runner in toppling the Gators.

By the end of the 36-13 win for LSU, Burrow finished by going 25-of-32 for 327 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. The Tigers signal-caller has now amassed 2,484 yards passing and 31 total touchdowns on the season (29 passing, two rushing). With the numbers he’s putting up and the success that LSU is having, Burrow is nipping at the heels of the No. 1 spot.

1. Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma

After committing two turnovers last week against Texas, Jalen Hurts’ stock took a slight hit. Having said that, he ultimately finished the game with great numbers and plenty of room to rebound as he took on West Virginia in Week 8. And that’s exactly what the graduate transfer from Alabama did as he led the Sooners to a dominant 52-14 win over the Mountaineers in Norman.

Hurts was nearly perfect in the victory, going 16-of-17 for 316 yards and three touchdowns as a passer while leading the Sooners in rushing with 10 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns. With his effort on Saturday, Hurts is now over 2,000 yards passing with 20 touchdowns and only three interceptions and over 700 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns.

No other player is affecting games in the way that Hurts is and, until that changes, he deserves the top spot in the 2019 Heisman rankings.
