NASCAR DFS Low End Sleepers

Paul Menard

Paul Menard seems like the clear best option in this price range for DFS players this week. Not only has he been fast already this weekend, but he finished top five in the first stage of this race a year ago.

Menard and the 21 car have been very good in practice this weekend. In First Practice, Menard’s fastest lap was seventh best. In Final Practice, Menard posted the 11th fastest lap and the seventh best 10 lap average. The 21 car appears to be pretty good on the short and long run.

After such good practice sessions, it was a bit surprising to see the 21 team qualify 22nd. But that should only allow for more place differential points, and may even drive down ownership. Menard has quietly been one of the most consistent DFS options this season but is still just the 22nd priced driver on DraftKings.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Another Ford that has been good in practice this weekend is the 17 driven, still, by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. It was announced this week that after being replaced in his current ride that Stenhouse will be essentially swapping rides with Chris Buescher and will joing JTG Racing in 2020.

But for now, Stenhouse is with Roush-Fenway Racing in the 17 car that seems pretty fast this week. In Final Practice, Stenhouse posted the sixth fastest lap and the 11th best 10 lap average. Then qualifying 19th, there may be room to improve on Sunday.

Daniel Hemric

I’m really not sure what to make of Daniel Hemric this week. I’m including him here because I feel like I have to with him on the pole and leading Final Practice. But I’m not convinced that he’s the best DFS option out there.

If he’s able to stay towards the front, lead some laps, or post some “fastest laps” he may be worth his 24th highest salary price. But he has qualified well before and almost always loses a ton of place differential points and fails to finish close to his starting spot.

But again, he qualified on the pole and posted the fastest lap in Final Practice. The car is undoubtedly fast. I think it is more likely that “fastest laps” will give him more points than his finishing position and place differential, but he may be worth a flier.

I’d prefer to be able to take David Ragan who is starting second and is $1,100 cheaper on DraftKings, but he didn’t really show the speed that Hemric did in practice. I prefer Hemric between the two, but I’d like to avoid them as they will likely be highly owned due to their qualifying performance and will certainly lose spots by the end of the race.
