2. Jameis Winston

After the Jay Cutler experience, which some fans seem to be open to rekindling after Trubisky’s latest dismal showing on Sunday, could the Bears go back to an erratic gunslinger type with Winston?

Winston is playing out his fifth-year contract option in Tampa Bay this, with it clear he won’t get a contract extension as the Buccaneers also acknowledge they’re stuck with him for the rest of the season barring injury.

When he hits free agency in March, with that as the certain assumption, Winston won’t be anointed the clear-cut starter on a new team barring something completely unforeseen. As he searches for places with the most vulnerable or questionable starting quarterback and an opportunity to possibly compete for a starting job (or take over at some point), not unlike Ryan Tannehill landing with the Tennessee Titans in a trade last offseason, the Bears will definitely stand out.

From Chicago’s end, there would be worse things than taking one or two-year, probably incentive-laden based on playing time, etc., flier on someone with Winston’s ability. The competition for the starting gig with Trubisky would be epic, if only for its spotlight on two guys with plenty of flaws.
