Top FanDuel NHL Defense: Oct. 8

At the defense position, John Carlson ($7,100) should be the most popular pick, and the red-hot top line Caps defenseman currently leads the NHL in points, with 18, in just ten games. You are likely to get 15 to 20 FanDuel NHL points from Carlson on Tuesday night, but I don’t think his ceiling is as high against a good Flames top-line defense.

If you have the salary to spend, sure play Carlson. But most of us won’t be in that position, if we’re using some of the top plays at center and winger, and picking a half-way decent goalie option. So, I’m more likely to snag some value in both of my defensive plays.

My favorite mid-salary range d-man is Jacob Trouba ($5,600) playing the top lines for the Rangers. A former Jets d-man, Trouba was a fantastic acquisition for the Rangers during the off-season, and Jacob should have a solid game against the Yotes on home ice.

Ryan Ellis ($5,300) is always a great play at this salary, regardless of the match-up. Ellis was a consistent mention of mine last season, and I’ll continue to stay focus on Ryan as long as he continues to deliver consistent double-digit points.

But, I also love Alexander Edler ($5,600) against the Red Wings, as much or more than Ellis, and I think Edler will be the lower owned of the large group of talented defensive-man.

There are two great value plays to consider too, Red Wings Mike Green ($3,700) and Oilers Ethan Bear ($3,800). Of these two, though, Green is most well know and should be higher owned. I think Ethan is more likely to fly under the radar, so if you can afford an extra $100 in salary, he’s your better play for the slate.
