Top FanDuel NHL Goalies & Summary: Oct. 22

We’re still not aware of all of the starting goalies at the time of writing this post, so make sure you continue to keep an eye out for the latest starting goalie updates as you finalize your lineup toward the 7pm EDT lock time.

That being said, if Marc-Andre Fleury ($9,100) starts in goal for the Golden Knights tonight against the Blackhawks in Chicago, he’s my favorite play. He’s a bit too expensive, so I’ll likely find a better value, but Fleury should see a healthy dose of shots, leading to a high volume of saves (and FanDuel NHL points) and should seal a win over the Hawks.

But, I don’t think I can afford Fleury, given several of the top offensive plays I like for this slate, and given there are 20 teams on the ice tonight, leaning on your goalie as a top pick for points is a dicey move.

For better value, I like either Mike Smith ($8,000) or Mikko Koskinen ($8,100) against a struggling Wild in Minnesota tonight. Either Oilers goalie has a very good shot at securing a win tonight.

Also, Connor Hellebuyck ($7,700) had a rough start to the season against the Rangers, but he seems to be settling into the season now, and just blanked a very hot Oilers offense on Sunday. Any of those three should yield more than 30 FanDuel NHL points on modest goalie salaries and allow you to plug-and-play at the rest of the positions.

Again, I’m most likely going with value at the center position so I can load up on expensive red-hot wingers. But there are some solid expensive picks at the center position if you pivot that way. We also identified plenty of value at the center and winger spots, but the most value appears to be in the D-man location.

Given the winger position has the most players, four spots open, and there are ten games or twenty teams on the ice Tuesday night, I think that’s the best place to load up on points with your salary. For the rest of the roles, try to use value to leverage your lineup.

After reviewing our favorite options, here’s an example of a lineup we put together for the Tuesday, October 22 Main slate:

C      Stastny (VGK $5,300)

C      Dvorak (ARI $3,700)

W    Pastrnak (BOS $8,700)

W    Stone (VGK $7,700)

W    Kane (SJ $7,200)

W    Schmaltz (ARI $5,000)

D     Edler (VAN $5,600)

D     Bear (EDM $3,800)

G     Smith (EDM $8,000)

Note: This is a recommended lineup after discussing our top options for the week.  You should use this as a guide, and provide your own input when building FanDuel NHL lineups.  We are not telling you, or selling you, to use this lineup.
