2020 NFL mock draft: Justin Herbert goes to the Chargers
By Brad Weiss
The Los Angeles Chargers came into the 2019 NFL season as one of the favorites in the AFC to make it to the Super Bowl, but after seven weeks, they are in big trouble. This past weekend, the Chargers went on the road and lost to the Tennessee Titans, who had made the move from Marcus Mariota to Ryan Tannehill at quarterback.
Looking at this roster, they have their fair share of holes, including up front along the offensive line. While the team may go that route in the 2020 NFL Draft, they also may want to start thinking about life after Philip Rivers, especially if they are picking in the top-10 next April.
At No. 7 overall, there is a chance the Chargers could get one of the premier quarterbacks in this draft class, and Justin Herbert from Oregon would be a nice successor to Rivers. Remember, Hall of Fame Chargers quarterback Dan Fouts played his college ball at Oregon, and in Herbert, they would be getting arguably the most NFL-ready signal-caller in this draft class.
The Denver Broncos have a bunch of issues along their roster, and there is a good chance that they utilize a first round pick on the quarterback position in 2020. This is a draft class that has good talent at the position, but at No. 8 overall, John Elway may not see his next franchise guy, and could choose to address another issue with the roster.
There could be some major shakeups coming in the defensive backfield in Denver, and bringing in a talent like Jeffrey Okudah from Ohio State could fill the void if some of the bigger name players walk. Okudah is the best cover corner this draft class has to offer, and has the size, and ball-hawking skills needed to be a CB1 at the NFL level.
Chris Harris is going to be expecting a big payday, and Elway may decide it is time to move on from him. Within this draft class, Okudah is the best cornerback available, and would be another in a long line of high Ohio State cornerback draft picks to enter the NFL in recent years.
