5 possible landing spots for Cam Newton in 2020
1. Chicago Bears
After his latest dismal showing in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, even with the idea the game plan of head coach Matt Nagy put him in an unwinnable position with just seven rush attempts, Bears’ fans are definitely dreaming of quarterbacks besides Mitch Trubisky.
The narrative around Trubisky, which is not his fault, is tied to the fact the Bears traded up one pick to get him while passing on Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes. But it’s also clear he’s not getting it done at even a remotely passable level, and Nagy is not doing him any favors with an offensive plan and design that has at least one deeper analytical mind struggling to find the rhyme or reason to it.
While it might turn out to be the right thing to the turn their fortunes around this year, it’s a little aggressive to say the Bears should make a deal for Newton before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Looking toward the next year though, assuming he shows himself to be fully healthy, Chicago should have little trouble making room for Newton. They lack the significant draft pick capital to most easily make a trade, but with or without Trubisky on the roster Newton to the Windy City has a chance to get done heading into the 2020 season.
