DFS Fantasy Football: Wide Receivers to Sit

Mike Williams (LAC) @ CHI

I feel like I’m picking on the Chargers way too much in this piece but it is what it is. Mike Williams has not performed up to expectations this year as he has averaged 61.9 receiving yards (22nd) and 9.9 fantasy points per game (55th) as well.

Philip Rivers hasn’t been playing that great, and the Chargers as a whole have looked pretty flat considering how well they played just a season ago. With the Chicago Bears hosting a reeling offense in a do-or-die situation this week, I would avoid starting Williams considering his recent downward trend.

Alshon Jeffery (PHI) @ BUF

This is mainly because of his matchup more than anything else. The Buffalo Bills thrive at giving receivers fits this year. Only the Patriots have allowed pass catchers to average fewer fantasy points per game than the Bills through the first seven games of the season.

Jeffery only had two catches on five targets for a measly 38 yards and no touchdowns last Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas also has a pretty stiff defense in terms of allowing receivers to score many fantasy points (15.57 – fourth-least).

My confidence for Jeffery to have a fantasy-relevant day against an even stingier defense is pretty low considering how lousy he played against the Cowboys just a week ago.

D.J. Moore (CAR) @ SF

Moore has been a pretty solid receiver, but it’s mainly predicated off of who he will be squaring off against from week to week. This time, Moore will be facing against a much improved San Francisco 49ers’ secondary allowing the least number of receiving yards to wide-outs this year.

I know some people still have their doubts about this young 49ers squad, but I’m beginning to believe this defense is actually legit.

Kyle Allen is a good quarterback and the Panthers have been doing just fine since he stepped in for Cam Newton, but he still isn’t as effective of a passer to make any of the Carolina receivers to be much of a formidable threat against a tough secondary. I would keep my distance from Moore just to play it safe.
