DraftKings NBA Picks October 25: Out on the Towns
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
Brad Beal was pretty cold from the floor and ended up getting tossed in the opener, but I saw what I wanted to see. 25 shots and nearly double digit assists. The offense still rolls through Beal without question and the struggles of Ish Smith only solidified that. Beal is worth the price until someone starts cutting into his production or he has a tough matchup. Neither is true for tonight.
The Suns got a double double out of Devin Booker in the opener while still getting a ceiling game from Ricky Rubio. The Suns blew out a trendy pick to make the playoffs in the opener. I’m not saying that the Suns are a playoff team, but they do have fantasy relevance this year if the first game is any indication. Booker and Rubio are going to have tougher sledding against Denver, but they could still have nice games for the price.
Donovan Mitchell went nuts on the Thunder and will do the same to the Lakers. LouWill didn’t have much problem with the Lakers in the opener, so I would guess Mitchell is going to blow away value priced this low. He’s one of my favorite per dollar plays on the entire slate.
Honorable Mention:
The revolving door at the point didn’t seem to affect Zach LaVine too much. He still had a strong opening game. The volume and usage are there and he finally looks healthy. I like LaVine in this price range, but I wouldn’t choose him over Mitchell.
SGA and Chris Paul actually played quite nicely together. SGA hoisted up a ton of shots and showed his potential to be a dangerous scorer while Paul was content wreaking havoc everywhere else. This is still a guard-centric team, just not the way it was last year.
Not all rookies struggled in the opener. I touched on Coby White earlier, but it was RJ Barrett that stole the show for guards. Barrett wasn’t subject to the asinine rotations of Fizdale in his debut, but we all know that can change at any time.
Dark Horses:
Fred VanVleet picked right up where he left off in the playoffs last year. He very nearly outplayed Lowry in the opener, and FVV is a hell of a lot cheaper. The hike is going to be severe on the next slate, so let’s enjoy the discount why we can. VanVleet is an absolute steal here, even against Boston.
With Batum still out, expect another big game from Dwayne Bacon. Bacon destroyed the Bulls, and while Minnesota can keep up with most anyone, they aren’t exactly a good defensive team. Bacon will save your bacon again tonight.
The line for Gary Harris on Wednesday was nothing to write home about, but there are a few things that stood out to me. First of all, Harris is just $4,700 and he led the Nuggets with 35 minutes of court time. Harris was also just one of three Nuggets that jacked up double digit shot attempts. If a couple more of those fall in this game, Harris is going to blow away value for the price.
DraftKings really blew it with the price on Josh Hart. Hart rained threes on the reigning champs in the opener. Not only that, he turned in a really strong all around line. I wont build a lineup without Hart tonight. He is way too cheap.
My pick: SGA(SG), Hart(G), Bacon(SF)
