2. Newcastle triumph over tired Wolves

Sunday has an action-packed schedule which kicks off with Newcastle hosting Wolves. Last season these teams contested two tight fixtures with Wolves winning in Newcastle and the Magpies taking a point away at Molineux.

Neither of these sides have really broken into their stride this season which makes this game a bit of a toss up. Wolves were sensational as a newly-promoted side last season but have struggled to regain that form in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle lost Rafa Benitez and appointed Steve Bruce which many thought would be the demise of the club and almost ensure relegation this season. However, Bruce has adopted the same defensive and counter-attacking model that Benitez was implementing towards the back end of last season.

Newcastle will definitely be fighting to stay in the league but if they play with this kind of grit all season then they’ll have a great chance of staying up. Wolves may be favorites in this matchup but Newcastle may fancy their chances considering their opponents midweek exploits.

After Wolves’ impressive 2018-19 season they have found themselves in the Europa League which means more games and more travel. Nuno’s side won’t have much recovery time after their match on Thursday and the Portuguese manager will have to rely on the depth in his squad to get a result this weekend.

With this in mind, Newcastle should deviate from their usual defensive gameplan and try to hit Wolves with a high press early. The west midlands side won’t be ready for this and Steve Bruce’s side could grab an early goal before sitting back.

The Magpies aren’t going to win games by big margins this season but when they get in front they know how to defend a lead. The north east club will score a goal in the first 20 minutes courtesy of Miguel Almiron and then hold onto this lead for the remaining 70 to win 1-0.
