After falling on the road to the Kansas State Wildcats, here is what the top 10 of the upcoming AP Poll could look like after the Oklahoma Sooners’ loss.

Upsets are becoming increasingly prevalent in the 2019 NCAA season. We had our third top-10 team lose to an unranked squad in as many weeks. The Georgia Bulldogs lost at home in double overtime to the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 7, the Wisconsin Badgers fell on the road to the Illinois Fighting Illini on a last-second field goal in Week 8. Now, the Oklahoma Sooners tumble.

Oklahoma had all sorts of issues with the ground game of the Kansas State Wildcats all afternoon, as the Sooners lost 48-41 in Manhattan. A pair of great quarters in the second and third were enough to lift the Wildcats over the Sooners in the Little Apple on Saturday afternoon. This was Oklahoma’s first loss and the first signature win of the Chris Klieman era of K-State football.

Of course, this loss by the Sooners will impact the top 10 of the upcoming AP Top 25. The Sooners will drop in the rankings, but how far will they fall? Here is what the top 10 of the AP Poll could look like entering Week 10.

Projected AP Top 10, Week 10

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. LSU Tigers
  3. Ohio State Buckeyes
  4. Clemson Tigers
  5. Penn State Nittany Lions
  6. Florida Gators
  7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  8. Georgia Bulldogs
  9. Oregon Ducks
  10. Oklahoma Sooners

The Alabama Crimson Tide should hold on to their No. 1 ranking, despite having star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out for the game due to an ankle injury. Expect the Tide to roll past the hopeless Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night to stay undefeated.

Coming in at No. 2 will be the LSU Tigers, assuming Joe Burrow and the Bayou Bengals do their part and beat the Auburn Tigers in this year’s Tiger Bowl in Death Valley. After a dominant performance in the rain over the Wisconsin Badgers, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be a close No. 3 to LSU. Ohio State looks every bit a College Football Playoff team through Week 9.

The Clemson Tigers will likely stay at No. 4, as they should cakewalk past the division-rival Boston College Eagles this evening in a game nobody outside of ACC country will care about. Assuming they get past the Michigan State Spartans this afternoon, the new No. 5 team in the land will be James Franklin‘s Penn State Nittany Lions. We can’t wait for the Ohio State game in a few weeks.

Moving up to No. 6 will be the Florida Gators, who are on bye this week getting ready for their huge rivalry game in Jacksonville versus Georgia. If they get past the Michigan Wolverines tonight, expect the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to come in at No. 7 in next week’s AP Poll. Moving up to No. 8 will be Georgia, who is also on bye, awaiting the Gators on the banks of the St. John’s River.

Going up to No. 9 will be the Oregon Ducks, who will be hosting the Washington State Cougars tonight in Eugene. Oklahoma drops all the way to No. 10. The Sooners would edge out the Utah Utes for the last spot in the top 10 by virtue of having a better loss vs. K-State than the Utes have to the three-loss USC Trojans. The Baylor Bears are a very real threat to Oklahoma in the Big 12.
