Defense/Special Teams

You’d think I’d know better than to not rank the Patriots defense first by now, especially against the Jets. But there I went thinking Sam Darnold could do something but turn the ball over when blitzed. Clearly not the case. Nonetheless, I had them third, they finished first.

They tied for first with the Chiefs who dominated the Broncos are Thursday night before the article was published, so they were not included in my rankings last week, although I did pick them up and start them in one of my leagues last week.

I was one spot of on the Jags against the Bengals and pretty close on the Saints as well. Altogether I got five of the top 11 D/STs, but wasn’t super duper accurate overall. The Rams jumped up against a usually strong Falcons offense doing their damage before Matt Ryan left the game. The Ravens slowed down MVP candidate Russell Wilson while new addition Marcus Peters had a pick six in his debut.

  1. Steelers vs MIA

  7. Jaguars vs NYJ
  8. Saints vs AZ
  9. 49ers vs CAR
  10. Chargers vs CHI
  11. Bills vs PHI
  12. Buccaneers vs TEN
  13. Bears vs LAC
  14. Eagles vs BUF
  15. Seahawks vs ATL
  16. Packers vs KC
  17. Jets vs JAC
  18. Panthers vs SF
  19. Texans vs OAK
  20. Browns vs NE
  21. Broncos vs IND

Will I regret not going with the Patriots at one again? Maybe. Probably. Time will tell, but I have to think the Browns come out and at least take care of the ball and stay in this game coming off of a bye and with the Pats on a short week. The Steelers defense has been their bright point and a matchup with the Dolphins should lead to big stats across the board for the fantasy football D/ST.

The Rams just had an impressive showing against a good offense with new corner Jalen Ramsey making an immediate impact on the game. What will they be able to do against an Andy Dalton led Bengals squad? Aaron Donald should feast.

Jameis Winston just threw 12 interceptions and lost four fumbles in his last game in London… okay that’s an exaggeration, but five picks and two fumbles is a TON of turnovers, and the Titans defense that was strong before just got even stronger with the addition of first-round pick Jeffery Simmons.

I also like the Colts vs DEN, the Lions vs NYG, the Jags vs NYJ, and Chargers vs CHI. I’m not so high on the Packers vs KC even with Mahomes out, the Panthers vs SF, and the Broncos vs IND who may have found themselves a franchise QB in Jacoby Brissett.
