NBA DFS Picks and Pivots – Game Stack:

If you look at the four games on this slate, my gut instinct is that the Nets-Grizzlies is the least popular game stack as the Luka-Dame star power in Dallas/Portland, or the Lakers studs with cheap Hornets runbacks or stacking KAT versus a Jimmy Butler-less Heat squad will all end up being sexier spots to target.

However, the Memphis-Brooklyn game has the highest game total on the slate at 224 and pits two of the top five paced teams this early season against each other. The Nets pace being in the top 5 really shouldnt’ be a huge surprise considering they ranked 6th in pace in the second half of last season but Memphis running at this pace considering their Grind City persona is likely going to shock some people.

The truth is, new Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins plans to play at a fast pace this season and in this preseason interview with NBA.com, he spoke to exactly that:

"Grind City Media: We saw some glimpses during the Grizzlies run to a summer league championship in Las Vegas, but what kind of playing style should fans expect to see from your team this season? Jenkins: “We’re going to play fast. Pace and space. Hopefully, put a lot of points on the board."

The reality is, he has the horses to run this style of play to all centered around rookie Ja Morant ($12.5K), Jaren Jackson ($12.1K) and Brandon Clarke ($7.5K). The one player here to watch is Clarke who is questionable to play with back soreness but with Jonas Valanciunas still limited in his starters minutes, it could continue to open up a major role for Clarke in the frontcourt as he has played 24 MPG and put up 25 FP/G which would return 3.3X with a similar performance today at his price point.

Running it back with the Nets all starts with Kyrie Irving ($17.4K) who is sporting a team-high 37% usage rate thus far while shooting the ball a league-high 26 times per game. The best part of this game stack is outside of Kyrie, everyone else is cheap which makes a KAT/Kyrie stud pairing easy to do.

Finding the secondary pieces on Brooklyn is always the challenge but one approach could be to pair Kyrie with Spencer Dinwiddie ($9.9K) in an effort to stagger the usage and production as Dinwiddie leads the second unit and is second to only Kyrie with a 30.8% usage rate.

The optimal secondary play on Brooklyn in my opinion though is Caris LeVert ($12.5K) who could excel in a pace up match-up like I believe we will have here tonight. Levert struggled with fouls against the Nets which limited him to only 24 minutes after playing 36 in their opening OT affair with the Wolves and at this price point, is a player with 40+ fantasy point upside that could carry you to a GPP win.

Keep an eye on the status of Clarke – but do not overlook this potential fast-paced game stack that with its pricing allows you to build around a superstar of your choice.

Good luck all!
