Recap: Off a humbling 33-0 Monday night home loss to the rival Patriots, Adam Gase’s struggling club had one less day to prepare for a trip to Jacksonville. Second-year quarterback Sam Darnold turned over the ball five times in the loss to New England and he and the team looked to make amends against the improved Jaguars. But even a change of venue for Gase’s team didn’t matter much to its young signal-caller as New York finished with 213 total yards while Darnold (who threw a pair of touchdowns) was sacked eight times and served up three interceptions. And a usually tough Jets’ defense gave up surprising 389 total yards to Doug Marrone’s improving attack.

Next Week: It’s the first meeting of the season between the Jets and Miami Dolphins and the first installment of this series in 2019 will take place in South Florida. The Green and White has lost three straight meetings to the ‘Fins and is 1-5 in their last six contests in this rivalry. And that also includes three consecutive losses at Miami.

Playoff hopes: Six days after a scary appearance on Monday Night Football, the mistake-prone Jets once again made it easy for the other team as Darnold once again spent too much time under duress and continues to throw the football to the other team. And the New York defense remains an enigma despite some talented pieces.

team. 31. . 2-6. Previous: . New York Giants. 27

Recap: The Giants headed to the Motor City looking to snap their current three-game losing streak as they took on the Lions. And thanks to the latest turnover from rookie quarterback Daniel Jones and the team’s shortcomings in the secondary, Big Blue would fall behind 14-0 after 15 minutes of play. And New York was never able to get the lead despite the fact that Jones came back with a pair of touchdown passes before halftime. The young signal-caller would throw for 322 yards and four scores but was also sacked three times. The Giants did mount a respectable pass rush against Matthew Stafford, dropping him four times, but were again burned for big plays.

Next Week: Big Blue looks to snap its current five-game losing streak to the Dallas Cowboys when the teams meet on Monday night at MetLife Stadium. Back on the opening Sunday of the season at Arlington (Week 1), Shurmur’s squad took an early lead but eventually succumbed to the current NFC East frontrunners by a 35-17 score.

Playoff hopes: A crucial mistake and a shake effort by the defense once again combined to do in Shurmur’s team. And since the team evened its record back in Week 4 at 2-2, there have been four consecutive losses. There have been some signs of progress and even if the Giants get hot, there are too many teams to climb over in the NFC.
