3. Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams from the Jacksonville Jaguars

Of course, we were going to talk about the biggest deal of the trade deadline thus far between the Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. After sending cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens for linebacker Kenny Young and a 2020 fifth-round pick, Rams general manager Les Snead was not done dealing back on Oct. 15.

A few hours later, he’d give up the farm in terms of draft picks for the Jaguars’ cornerback. Jacksonville got Los Angeles’ 2020 first-round pick, 2021 first-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick. It was a steep price to pay for a cornerback who may not finish his NFL career in Los Angeles, as the Nashville native may one day choose to play for the Tennessee Titans.

But for Snead and the Rams, it was worth it. They needed to upgrade from Peters and solidify the defensive backfield after seeing Aqib Talib go on IR. Ramsey will be key in the Rams’ postseason push this year and the two years after that, as Ramsey is still on his rookie deal with an exercised fifth-year option for 2020 and could be franchise tagged by the Rams in 2021 if need be.

Though it was a good deal for the Rams in the present, the Jaguars may end up getting the last laugh with this trade. Jacksonville is 4-4 through eight weeks and has the Rams’ next two first-round picks to draft elite defensive prospects. Ramsey wanted out of Duval County, so this could be a case of Ewing Theory for the Jaguars, will a healthy complement of picks coming their way.
