XINJUN ZHANG
Don’t overthink this, XinJun is playing in his home nation, in his last three events has a T7th at the Safeway, T16th at the Shriners, and T4 at the Houston Open. Zhang is this week’s Matsuyama and he comes in at a ridiculously low price tag. Over his last 5 events, he has gained across the board 4.6 SG T2G, +1 OTT, +2.2 APP, and most importantly this week +1.4SG Around the Greens. He will be pretty chalky I presume, but he fits the course, he is playing in front of his countrymen, this really is a no brainer.

ERIK VAN ROOYEN
Another presumably popular option this week will be EVR who in his last 6 events has a win at the Scandinavian Open, 3 top tens mixed with a couple missed cuts, the most recent coming at Le Golf National at the Open de France. Van Rooyen tied for 22nd place last year and has the knack for showing up at these WGC Events. Obviously, we have no cut this week so this volatility is somewhat digestible. EVR came in 12th on the Euro Tour in GIR % an impressive feat given the average smaller green sizes in rotation across the pond. He is hitting 69.8% of GIR’s on the young 2020 season – this coupled with a 54% sand save percentage makes him a solid low priced option.
JT POSTON
Poston finished with a 27th place finish last week in Chiba, although I’m sure this wasn’t what he envisioned as a goal. Poston has proficiency on the Bentgrass greens, the only surface he seems to have impactful SG Putting gaining +.21 SG on average. At such a low price tag, Poston ranks 16th in SG Approach among the field in the last 24 rounds, this along with a 2nd place 3 Putt avoidance ranking on these tricky undulating greens. In the greens in regulation average, he has a positive differential of +.5 greens gained per round, good for a ranking of 13th place in the field within that timeframe. Over his last 5 events, he has gained 5.5 Strokes T2G, this essentially means he’s finding fairways and greens regularly and often, this is something that lights our eyes up especially on a course requiring long accurate balls off the tee. Surprisingly he ranked 6th in my models this week, I will definitely give him some exposure to free up salary.
I really hopes this helps you find the green, I am always available for feedback, questions, or just to chat on Twitter @3Putts4Par. Have a wonderful and successful week!
