For the most part, the Pac-12 has been a battle royale of who wants to win less in the 2019 college football season. Just when you think a possible contender is going to emerge, another team knocks them off and everything levels out again. The two exceptions to this, however, have been the aforementioned Utes (at least since their shocking loss to USC) and the Oregon Ducks.

Since their season-opening loss to Auburn, Justin Herbert and the Ducks have passed every test and done so in a variety of ways. For a stretch, their defense was playing like one of the best units in the sport. Lately though, it’s been their offense turning it up a notch, earning them a road win over Washington and then C.J. Verdell putting the team on his back last week in a nail-biter against Washington State in Eugene.

On Saturday night, the Ducks head to the LA Coliseum to face a USC Trojans team that is as hot-and-cold as you’ve likely come to expect from Clay Helton’s club. Having said that, the Trojans have been far more dangerous this season when Kedon Slovis is at the helm, which they showcased last week in a comeback win on the road over Colorado. And therein lies the rub for this matchup.

All told, Oregon is the better team but USC is at home and the Ducks are coming off of one of their worst defensive showings of the season. If Slovis comes out strong for the Trojans and puts the No. 7 ranked team in the country on its heels and in position to get into a shootout, the home team has the juice and raw talent to pull off a massive upset that keeps the Pac-12 in flux.
