Tight Ends to Start

Darren Waller (OAK) vs. DET

This game between the Lions and Raiders has a lot for us to look forward to and the tight end position is no exception. Waller has become a breakout star in a thin tight end class for fantasy owners this year. He’s currently averaging the second-most fantasy points per game against defenses (16.3) and looks to continue to strong surge during the second portion of the 2019 season. Next up is the Detroit Lions who are a slumping defense and have been having quite some difficulty stopping opposing tight ends from having success. The Raiders are a middle of the pack squad in terms of passing yards, but when they see Detroit’s weaknesses (which shouldn’t take long), they will continuously exploit it throughout the game.

Vance McDonald (PIT) vs. IND

McDonald hasn’t really had a productive season this year, but this week against the Colts brings about some optimism for the Pittsburgh tight end. Indianapolis has given up the seventh-most receiving yards to tight ends this year. As we all know, tight ends are usually a quarterback’s best friend, especially for someone as inexperienced as Mason Rudolph. Outside of Juju Smith-Schuster, the Steelers don’t have much else on the outside for Rudolph to go to. McDonald wouldn’t be a bad option and if Pittsburgh is to reach the 0.500 mark for the first time this season, they will key in on the Colts defense’s Achilles heal. I expect McDonald to play a major role in the Steelers offensive game plan if they are to win this week.
