Quarterbacks

In recapping the accuracy of my fantasy football rankings from last week’s article, we’ll start with the last statement I made on this slide. I said that I liked Mason Rudolph, Ryan Tannehill, and Derek Carr to outscore higher-owned quarterbacks such as Carson Wentz, Baker Mayfield, and Kyle Allen. All three did just that.

Daniel Jones got back to his form from his first couple starts against the Lions and had a fantastic game, finishing as fantasy football QB1 for week eight. I had him ranked 19th, so he clearly outplayed expectations. On the other hand, my number one QB, Russell Wilson, finished QB17 in a disappointing showing against an awful Falcons defense.

Overall, I ended up correctly predicting seven of the top 12 quarterbacks for week eight of fantasy football, and nailed Watson and Rodgers at two and three. I also predicted the struggles of Wentz, Mayfield, Allen, Philip Rivers, and Mitchell Trubisky.

  1. Matthew Stafford DET vs OAK
  2. Russell Wilson SEA vs TB
  3. Dak Prescott DAL vs NYG
  4. Deshaun Watson HOU vs JAC
  5. Aaron Rodgers GB vs LAC
  6. Tom Brady NE vs BAL
  7. Gardner Minshew JAC vs HOU
  8. Josh Allen BUF vs WAS
  9. Lamar Jackson BAL vs NE
  10. Jacoby Brissett IND vs PIT
  11. Derek Carr OAK vs DET
  12. Kirk Cousins MIN vs KC
  13. Sam Darnold NYJ vs MIA
  14. Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs AZ
  15. Jameis Winston TB vs SEA
  16. Philip Rivers LAC vs GB
  17. Carson Wentz PHI vs CHI
  18. Kyler Murray AZ vs SF
  19. Daniel Jones NYG vs DAL
  20. Matt Moore KC vs MIN
  21. Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs PHI
  22. Kyle Allen CAR vs TEN
  23. Baker Mayfield CLE vs DEN
  24. Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs NYJ
  25. Ryan Tannehill TEN vs CAR
  26. Mason Rudolph PIT vs IND
  27. Brandon Allen DEN vs CLE
  28. Case Keenum WAS vs BUF

Matthew Stafford was great last week against the Giants (QB7 with 300+ yards and three touchdowns), and draws the most favorable fantasy football matchup as of late for quarterbacks in the Oakland Raiders. Marvin Jones one week, Kenny Golladay the next, Danny Amendola a reception machine… the Detroit passing game is clicking and will thrive against Oakland this week.

Russell Wilson is back in the top two this week with another favorable NFC South opponent. The Bucs have been very shootout-prone, and if Jameis Winston can’t keep up this one could get out of hand early. But I think the game is close enough to keep Russ throwing for most of it and he should be able to pick apart a young Tampa D.

I also like Dak Prescott vs NYG, Gardner Minshew vs HOU, Josh Allen vs WAS, Jacoby Brissett vs PIT, and Sam Darnold vs MIA this week. All are very solid starting options  despite some inconsistent play throughout the season.

I would once again avoid Carson Wentz, Baker Mayfield, and Kyle Allen who face more tough matchups again this week. Chicago, Denver, and Tennessee have been three of the best defenses against opposing quarterbacks in fantasy football, and I would try to find other starting options this week if I rostered these QBs.
