2. Matt Rhule – Baylor head coach

This season has served as a breakout campaign for Rule and his Baylor program. It’s just his third season in Waco but he’s transformed his team from good to great. The Bears currently sit atop the Big 12 standings with an overall record of 8-0.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Baylor is the best team in the Big 12, but their impressive start should capture the attention of Florida State’s administration. Think of him as a slightly better version of Norvell. Rhule has a lot of stylistic similarities, but he’s achieving more success in a bigger conference.

Rhule’s demonstrated history of success working in different regions of the country should also strengthen his candidacy. He earned the Baylor job by guiding Temple to an unprecedented period of success. The fact that he has national recruiting experience should be seen as a huge positive by Florida State.

It might be a year or two too early to pluck Rhule away from Baylor, but Florida State needs to hire a coach with serious upside. He may not be the finished article, but the success he’s shown at Temple and Baylor makes it pretty obvious he’s a very good football coach. FSU could do a lot worse than stealing away Rhule from the Big 12.
