6. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State

When you think of Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys, your mind likely gravitates towards high-octane passing offense. However, with a freshman at quarterback this season, the Cowboys have relied on the legs of running back Chuba Hubbard more often than not, helping to guide this team to 6-3 and pulling off an impressive win over TCU in Week 10.

Hubbard was at the heart of that victory as he carried the ball 20 times for 223 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt sophomore now has 236 totes for 1,604 yards and 18 touchdowns in only nine games this season. And while he hasn’t contributed much to the passing attack, the Cowboys running back has been one of the best runners in college football season, deserving of being recognized as such.

5. J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State

Whereas Justin Fields has struggled to find yardage production this season, his backfield mate, running back J.K. Dobbins, has not had the same problem. In fact, the Ohio State ball-carrier has been on an absolute tear against the best competition that the Buckeyes have faced. In their last four games — all against Big Ten opponents — Dobbins has rushed for at least 120 yards in every game, including 160 or more yards in three of them.

Dobbins now has 154 rushes for 1,110 yards and nine touchdowns to go with 13 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns on the season. If he’s able to continue his dominant performance in conference play, the running back has made his case that he should be one of the top five Heisman candidates in college football.
