Mauricio Pochettino

Last year’s constant links to Real Madrid seem to have flamed out for Mauricio Pochettino, whose stock as a manager has fallen somewhat due to Tottenham’s recent struggles. However, Tottenham’s players seem burned out after another offseason of minimal changes and maybe the manager is ready to move on as well.

Pochettino has brought a prosperous period to Spurs football, yet they have remained conservative in their transfer approach. That has hurt Pochettino’s ability to build a more talented squad in his image that is still willing to press and fight for trophies.

Barcelona on the other hand are hungry and have the resources to back Pochettino, who could do wonders with this talented squad.

Pochettino is a demanding coach whose tactics and methods are among the most effective in Europe’s top flight. He helped Tottenham make an improbable, gutsy run to the Champions League final last season, and while the club is struggling now, maybe he just needs a change of scenery. Pochettino is a bigger name and a safer option than some of the other candidates, though there could be concerns that he isn’t quite Barcelona quality.
