Fantasy Football lineup advice: Week 10 boom or bust
Tight End
Boom: Gerald Everett, LAR @ PIT
Everett is just one name on a short list of tight-ends that have broken out this year. He’s been far from perfect, scoring five or fewer points in four of his games, but has remained a serviceable streamer at the position, nonetheless. With Everett, you’ll take the big games he gives you and take the duds with a grain of salt.
Unlike his quarterback, this matchup with the Steelers figures to bode fairly well for Everett. Pittsburgh comes into this one as a bottom-12 defense against tight-ends, giving up 12.7 FPPG. But here’s the kicker – in road matchups where Goff struggles, Everett has seen a offensive role greatly expand. In their last two road games, Everett has drawn 10 and 11 targets in two of his better games of the season. Look for the 25-year-old to again serve as his gunslinger’s security blanket.
Bust: Jacob Hollister, SEA @ SF
It happens almost every week. Owners desperate at the TE spot go touchdown chasing and only look at the fantasy-point column rather than analyzing the entire process. Hollister is the latest tight end to have a flukey, multi-touchdown game that people will undoubtedly be rolling the dice with in Week 10. Don’t be that guy. While he took advantage of a bad Tampa Bay secondary in a high-scoring affair, this is player who’s caught no more than four passes in any game to this point.
The matchup, alone, should scare people away, as the charging Seahawks are headed to San Francisco to take on football’s single remaining unbeaten team. The Niners have surpassed the Patriots in recent weeks as the NFL’s best defense against tight-ends, limiting the position to a miniscule 5.9 FPPG. I know it’s a thin position, but you can surely do better than Hollister.
Sleeper: O.J. Howard, TB vs. ARI
Let me put it this way – if Howard can’t break out of his prolonged slump in this matchup, then it’s officaly time for owners to cut ties with him. The Cardinals have been awful all season against TEs, allowing a league-high 20.9 FPPG. Tampa Bay’s passing game is rolling right now, but Howard’s been left out of all the fun. On the bright side, he’s staying somewhat involved, drawing four targets last week.
