5 Premier League predictions: Mane double as Liverpool beat Manchester City
4. Chelsea beat Crystal Palace in London derby
The earlier kickoff on Saturday sees Chelsea host Crystal Palace in a London derby that has the potential to be quite an entertaining match. Chelsea have surprised many with their consistency this season considering the young squad at Frank Lampard’s disposal and the transfer ban which has been enforced upon the Blues.
That transfer ban seems to have been a blessing in disguise as the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all getting the opportunity to show how good they really are without the pressure of having to perform in 20 minute substitute appearances.
Outside of the top two, the Premier League is incredibly tight this season. Crystal Palace are only two points back from 5th place but at the same time they are only four points ahead of Everton who sit in 17th.
Roy Hodgson’s first aim this season would have been to make sure his side aren’t fighting relegation and so far he’s doing a great job in that respect. Hodgson now knows that his squad are more than capable of a top-half finish though and will be pushing them to make that happen.
An away trip to Chelsea is never going to be easy though and the former England manager should be happy if his side can take a point this weekend. Frank Lampard should be expecting three from his side though – especially after their rousing Champions League comeback against Ajax on Tuesday night.
The Blues were 4-1 down and miraculously came back to make it 4-4. They had the ball in the net to take it to 5-4 but Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal was ruled out for handball by VAR. That didn’t dampen the feeling that evening for Chelsea and it shows the spirit that this young team have.
That comeback will have the Chelsea players desperate to get back on the pitch this weekend and they will take the game to Palace. Tammy Abraham will find the back of the net early on before Willian and Mason Mount also get on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 by halftime. The game will finish 4-1 with Abraham bagging another and Wilfried Zaha grabbing a consolation for the Eagles.
