The Toronto Marlies’ second-best scorer, Pierre Engvall, may also be a prime candidate for a recall over the next few weeks should the Maple Leafs need some energy in their lineup. Engvall, a 23-year-old forward, has yet to see the ice as an NHLer so far in his hockey career, but has made waves in the AHL.

With the Marlies over the last two and a half seasons, Engvall has 52 points in 92 games played in total in the AHL. This season, Engvall has 12 points in 13 games with the Marlies, just behind Aberg at the top of the leaderboard on the team.

Engvall has surprised for Toronto, as the forward was a seventh round draft pick in 2014, a diamond in the rough it seems for the Maple Leafs with a late round selection. Despite being a big body on offense, Engvall can score, a talent that got him a contract with the team in the spring of 2018 after an impressive postseason with the Marlies.

Like Aberg, Engvall is likely facing a bit of an uphill battle in getting a call up to the Maple Leafs with how many players the team is ferrying back and forth, but should he continue to play well, he’ll be knocking down that door in no time.
