Wide Receivers

Start:

Michael Thomas (NO) @ TB

The New Orleans Saints put up quite a clunker of a game as they lost to the lowly Falcons by a score of 26-9 this past Sunday. I have this strange feeling that the Saints are very angry with how they performed in Week 10 and want retribution for it. In comes Michael Thomas who had a nice afternoon against Atlanta hauling in 13 passes for 152 yards. He was the one bright spot in Sunday’s shocking loss. Don’t expect the same thing to happen with New Orleans’ offense again. Quarterback Drew Brees will make sure to feed his number one receiving target plenty as they get ready to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I fear the Bucs are walking right towards a furious freight train and Michael Thomas will rake them through the coals for a huge day this Sunday. Tampa Bay has a terrible secondary so it’s a great chance for Thomas to shine in this game.

D.J. Moore (CAR) vs. ATL

Let’s keep this discussion within the NFC South as the Carolina Panthers have a receiver of their own just itching to have a truly big day. That, of course, is D.J. Moore. Last week against Green Bay, Moore had a fairly productive afternoon as he caught nine passes for 120 yards. Not bad for someone who is operating with a rookie quarterback in Kyle Allen under center. The Falcons’ secondary is atrocious this year as they have surrendered the fifth-most receiving yards per game to opposing pass-catchers (188.1). He’s also averaging the tenth-most targets among active receivers as well (8.8 p/g). The Panthers will want to make a statement against their division rivals to say that they are still contending for a playoff spot in the NFC. With that said, getting Moore involved is going to be a key component to their success on offense outside of Christian McCaffrey.

Sit:

JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) @ CLE

It breaks my heart to have JuJu Smith-Schuster on this side of the list, but he has been a total disappointment in fantasy this year. Averaging just 11.4 fantasy points per game (45th) and a total of only four red zone receptions as we approach Week 11 is not a stat line I was expecting from him. Unfortunately, when your starting quarterback goes down with a season-ending injury, you’re at the mercy of an inexperienced signal-caller. Mason Rudolph still has a lot of developing to go before he is a viable starter in the NFL, and his receivers like Smith-Schuster are suffering big time from it. Even with a great match-up this Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns coming up, I wouldn’t risk starting him if possible.
