Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers vs ATL

Christian McCaffrey has played his way to an outrageous salary on DFS sites. On FanDuel, he is nearly $2,000 more than the second-highest priced running back. Even more outrageous? You almost have to pick him anyway. He’s been that good.

People have tried to fade CMC in recent weeks, pivoting to guys like Dalvin Cook and Saquon Barkley. But McCaffrey has still proven his worth week in and week out. And now going against a struggling Falcons defense, this is not the time to get cute and fade him.

If you have a gut feeling that he won’t do much this week, feel free to go with other options. But I’m going to have to see it before I take McCaffrey out of his spot in my lineup. He is getting to the point where he is carving his name in the desk at this point. He does so much for that offense that even with his lofty price tag, he is a must-play for me this week. There are other places where you can save and still compose a solid lineup built around Christian McCaffrey.

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys vs DET

See Dak Prescott. The Cowboys have something to prove this week, and the Lions are the unlucky ones that will get the blunt of that force. They also happen to be the worst defense in the league against opposing fantasy football running backs.

Prior to his Sunday famine last week against the Vikings, Zeke had been eating. He had three straight games with 100+ rushing yards and two total rushing touchdowns in those three outings. That is where the concern is with Zeke. He has been running well and having good games for his team, but Dak scores the touchdowns for fantasy football players. I think Zeke gets into the end zone a time or two this week and is a great option if you do decide to try to fade McCaffrey.

Josh Jacobs, Oakland Raiders vs CIN

Offensive Rookie of the Year? It’s looking more and more clear for Raiders first-round running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs has been one of the best running backs in fantasy football after a bit or a rocky start to his career.

Over his last six games, Jacobs has just one single-digit fantasy performance. He has scored three touchdowns in his last two games scoring over 40 fantasy points. The Bengals are at the bottom of the league, right their with the Lions, against opposing running backs. Jacobs is in line for a monster game this week.

Tevin Coleman, San Francisco 49ers vs AZ

Matt Breida won’t be suiting up for the 49ers this week against the Cardinals, and Raheem Mostert is questionable as well. That should mean a full workload for Tevin Coleman. When Tevin Coleman gets close to a full workload, he has been incredibly good.

In a four game stretch from week five to week nine where Coleman averaged 15.5 touches per game, he scored six touchdowns, ran for over 300 yards and averaged nearly 20 fantasy points per game. Coleman should be right in that range if Breida doesn’t play (listed as doubtful) and has the potential for a huge game like he had against the Panthers in week eight.

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals vs OAK

Is Joe Mixon finally becoming fantasy relevant again? I think so…? As a Mixon owner is season-long, I’m hesitant to fully buy into that statement given his atrocious start to the season, but he has certainly shown signs of life lately.

Last week Mixon ran for over 100 yards for the first time this season. The two weeks before that he scored a receiving touchdown in each game. Mixon has been right around 20 fantasy football points on DraftKings in each of his last two games (a little lower on FanDuel since they do .5 PPR instead of full PPR). This week he gets a Raiders run defense that is in the bottom third of the league, so he should be able to keep it going as the Bengals rely on the run game while they ease in their rookie starting quarterback.

Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills vs MIA

While he has shown signs of greatness this season, Devin Singletary has been far from consistent this year. He has had his ups and downs and his injuries, but when he is out there and healthy and getting a decent workload, he is productive for the Buffalo Bills.

Once again, the Bills are facing the Dolphins this week. Although Singletary’s worst performance of the year came against the Dolphins a few weeks ago, it was his first game returning from injury. I expect his workload to be much heavier this week with the Bills getting out to an early lead and running the ball very often throughout the second half.

Brian Hill, Atlanta Falcons vs CAR

Goodbye, Devonta Freeman. Hello, Brian Hill. Freeman has already been ruled out with a foot injury for week 11, leaving Hill as the presumable start for the Falcons. Hill was sensational in the preseason, earning him this crack at the starting job over Quadree Ollison with Freeman and Ito Smith both out.

Hill received 20 rushes last week against the Saints and scored a receiving touchdown on his way to double digit fantasy points in relief. The Panthers are surprisingly one of the most generous defenses to opposing fantasy football running backs, the start in this matchup should lead to a great game out of Hill at a still relatively low price (but likely high ownership).
