Heisman rankings: Joe Burrow pads resume, Tua injury opens door for new finalist
6. J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State
It feels safe to say that Ohio State wasn’t totally locked in on the road against a bad Rutgers team on Saturday. Yes, they won 56-21 but given how the Buckeyes have been playing and how lackluster the Scarlet Knights are, you would’ve figured the final margin of victory would’ve been much more substantial. Despite that, running back J.K. Dobbins added to his impressive season.
Though Dobbins was not involved in the passing game, he still took 17 carries for 89 yards and two scores against Rutgers. That relatively pedestrian day still adds to his impressive résumé for 2019 as he has 1,289 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground to go with 140 receiving yards and two more scores. Had he been forced to play more in more close games (which may be coming), he might be higher than No. 6 in the Heisman rankings.
5. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State
Chuba Hubbard has been the workhorse for the Oklahoma State offense all season and that’s not going to change at the end of the season, which was on full display against Kansas on Saturday. As the Cowboys cruised to a comfortable 31-13 victory over the Jayhawks, Hubbard was the stable force for Oklahoma State and put forth another noteworthy effort.
On 23 carries against the Jayhawks, Hubbard rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, adding two receptions for 42 yards to his day as well. That gives Hubbard an outstanding 1,726 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns on the season and still leaves him with just one game this year in which he’s failed to eclipse the 100-yard plateau (a blowout win against McNeese State where he received eight carries).
As he seems destined to top 2,000 yards and threaten the 25-touchdown mark, it’s hard to deny what Hubbard has done in Stillwater this year.
