Heisman rankings: Joe Burrow pads resume, Tua injury opens door for new finalist
4. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
One thing that has plagued Jonathan Taylor in Big Ten play this season has been consistency. But after putting up 250 yards rushing on Iowa last week, that wasn’t an issue against Nebraska in Week 12. The star running back topped the 200-yard mark once again, taking 25 carries for 204 yards and two touchdowns versus the Huskers. For good measure, he chipped in 11 receiving yards as well.
Taylor now has 1,463 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground this season while also amassing a career-high 20 receptions, 162 receiving yards and four touchdowns. As good as he’s been throughout his career, eclipsing 2,100 yards last season, this might be Taylor’s most complete effort yet for the Badgers.
3. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
Justin Fields did something on Saturday that he has not done all season. Though the first-year starter for Ohio State has been phenomenal since arriving from Georgia, particularly with finding the end zone, his yardage totals have left a lot to be desired. Against Rutgers, though, Fields had a big day as he topped the 300-yard passing mark for the first time in the 2019 season, going 15-of-19 for 305 yards and four touchdowns, adding 30 rushing yards for good measure.
Fields has now accounted for an incredible 41 touchdowns on the season (31 passing, 10 rushing) with 2,164 passing yards, 377 rushing yards and only one interception.
Though his yardage totals are still lacking, the reason is simple: He hasn’t had to play a full game basically all season because of the way he and the Buckeyes have been scoring. Because of that, he’s the early leader to be the Heisman Trophy finalist joining our top two in these rankings for the ceremonies on Dec. 14.
