2020 NFL mock draft: Tua Tagovailoa falls in the first round
By Brad Weiss
The Cleveland Browns played the Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime in Week 11, and we were left with one of the more head-scratching plays in NFL history. Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett ripped Mason Rudolph’s helmet off of his head, and hit him with it, a move that earned Garrett an indefinite suspension from the league.
The loss of Garrett is going to hurt this team the rest of the way, and while the win against Pittsburgh was a good one, the Browns are going to have a hard time making the playoffs in 2019. That is a far cry from all the hype surrounding this team heading into the season, and as it stands, they would be picking in the middle of the first round in 2020.
With that selection, the Browns have to do something to get Baker Mayfield more protection up front, and Alex Leatherwood is one of the more versatile linemen in this draft class. Cleveland’s offensive line can be downright horrible at times, and in Leatherwood, they would be bringing in a guy who can start at tackle, or on the inside for them as a rookie.
Looking at the Raiders two first round picks, one their own, and one the Chicago Bears’, one may have thought it would be the Raiders pick that would be their first selection in 2020. However, the Raiders have been the better team this season, even beating the Bears, and based on Chicago’s schedule, this could end up being a top-10 pick.
It looks as though Jon Gruden knew what he was doing when he traded away Khalil Mack, and as the Raiders sit in contention for a playoff spot, the Bears season may be over. Regardless, this pick at No. 14 should be used to bolster the Raiders defense, which has played better in recent weeks against the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers.
With this pick, Isaiah Simmons from Clemson would be a perfect addition, as he could help fill the void on two weak spots in the Raiders roster. The Raiders need help in the secondary, where Simmons can play safety, but also at outside linebacker, giving defensive coordinator Paul Guenther the most versatile defensive player in this draft class.
