DraftKings college football showdown captain pick November 22

The captain pick is always the hardest, right? Tonight is not different. We all know the risk of rolling with wide receivers in the captain slot.

The Colorado State offense provides some really good captain picks starting with Nebraska transfer Patrick O’Brien. He has filled in nicely the year, and has the Rams rolling right now. In fact, the top three priced players are all Rams and two of them are receivers. That tells you where this offense is centered.

The way to attack Wyoming is through the air. Their run defense is very stingy, allowing just 98.3 rushing yards per game. However, they do allow 282.3 passing yards per game. O’Brien is a worthy captain, as is the best receiver you’ve never heard of in Warren Jackson.

The only team to hold Jackson under six reception was Arkansas. That was the game in which O’Brien subbed in late in the third quarter because of the injury to Collin Hill. Jackson and O’Brien have figured things out since then.

The only issue with using one of these two at captain is that you only have around $6,600 per player to fill the flex spots. I want both and the third (Dante Wright) as well, which just isn’t feasible when using one of the three as a captain. Then you only have around $4,000 left for the last three slots. That means using both kickers and a backup running back. That’s not a great way to build either.

The Rams’ defense has had issues all season, particularly with stopping the run. Xazavian Valladay is probably the best back in the Mountain West. Yes, I know San Diego State is still in the conference. Valladay has 571 rushing yards and eight receptions for 120 yards and a combined three touchdowns over the last four games. He is the offense!

Using Valladay at captain gives us $6820 per slot and allows us to capitalize on what works best in cold weather: running the football. We can work with that. If you want all of the studs and want to go cheap with a captain, Marcus McElroy is a decent option, but keep in mind Wyoming’s stout run defense. You may be better off using kicker Cooper Rothe.
