Early DraftKings college football running back picks November 23

Top Tier:

The West Virginia defense allows an average of 167.1 yards on the ground per game. Call it a hunch, but I think Chuba Hubbard blows by that mark. Only McNeese State held Chuba under 100 rushing yards (he only carried eight times) and Hubbard has scored at least one rushing touchdown in every game. It doesn’t get any better than this at any price. Play Chuba with confidence.

I don’t normally target games against marquee defenses, but I may make a bit of an exception here. J.K. Dobbins has come up big when the Buckeyes really needed him. He’s been solid every time, but the Wisconsin game showed what can happen when the Buckeyes strap the ball to him and let him go. I think the Penn State defense will cause some problems for the Ohio State offense and they will have to lean on Dobbins. He’s an interesting GPP option.

Middle Tier:

Memphis is going to run quite a bit against South Florida, but we saw Patrick Taylor take a chunk of Kenneth Gainwell’s workload. Gainwell is still the lead back, but you also have to pay $1400 more for him. Taylor is more of an acceptable risk, but this is still an overly high price for a backup. It makes more sense to avoid this whole situation and use Breece Hall. He is still severely underpriced.

I like USC’s matchup against UCLA in every facet of the game, but I find it hard to bank on Kenan Christon. Stephen Carr took some carries last week and scored the only touchdown on the ground for the Trojans. Christon was the better back, but I don’t know if you want to pay full price for someone ceding double digit carries to another back.

It’s hard to choose just one back to rely on in an option offense, but Jamale Carothers has nine touchdowns in five games. That’s a trend that I want a piece of!

Bargain Shoppers:

Javian Hawkins is going to set the freshman record for rushing yards at Louisville here against the Orange. The only question is how much farther will he go over? Considering the Syracuse run D and the heavy percentage of carries that Hawkins gets, I’ll say by a lot. This could be a huge game for Hawkins.

The loss of Corey Dauphine means that Darius Bradwell should be the sole lead back for Tulane. Amare Jones will still play, but Bradwell is a much better runner. We will likely see more designed runs for McMillan like we did last week, but Bradwell still had 63 yards and a touchdown against a tough Temple D last week. It will be a little easier here.
