2. Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma

Saturday was not the best day for Jalen Hurts, particularly as a passer. The Oklahoma Sooners signal-caller went only 11-of-21 for 145 yards, two touchdowns and an interception that was returned 97 yards for a score. However, Hurts saved his outing in a tight win against TCU with a huge rushing performance, taking 28 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite his recent bout with turnovers and Oklahoma stumbling a bit, Hurts’ production this season remains incredible. He now has thrown for 3,184 yards, 30 touchdowns and only six interceptions while rushing for 1,156 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Sooners quarterback has done more than enough to earn runner-up honors, even if the gap between him and No. 1 seemingly grows each week.

1. Joe Burrow, QB, LSU

En route to clinching LSU’s berth in the SEC Championship Game, quarterback Joe Burrow delivered another fantastic outing in what will end up being a Heisman Trophy-winning 2019 season. The signal-caller was near pristine in dismantling Arkansas, going 23-of-28 for 327 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

It’s really been one huge showing after another for the Ohio native this season with the Tigers. He crossed the 40-passing touchdown plateau in the win over Arkansas (41) while also topping 4,000 passing yards on the season and having only six interceptions as black marks on his ledger. There’s no doubt he’s been the best player in college football this season and will be hoisting a trophy on Dec. 14.
