WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Rey Mysterio

Well, I predicted that Dominick would make an appearance during the WWE Championship Match between Brock Lesnar and Rey Mysterio, who was for some reason dressed like Doink the Clown here, but it didn’t go as I had hoped. I thought perhaps Rey’s boy would turn on his old man but that wasn’t the case. With Mysterio taking the expected beating from Lesnar, Dominick came down to throw in the towel (certainly not a knock on the Cody-Jericho finish at Full Gear), which Lesnar stole, and then joined his father in nearly creating the upset of the year.

The double 619 from father and son got a big pop from the Chicago crowd and I’ll admit to smiling a bit when it happened. Dominick hit a monster splash (very impressive actually) and Rey followed, leading to a fantastic nearfall in which both were on top of the champion. But the dream of a 44-year-old WWE Champion wasn’t to be. Lesnar took out Dominick with a German suplex and then caught Rey coming off the top rope, turned it into an F5 and got the 1-2-3. It was Lesnar’s usual short ride but it was fast and furious and pretty entertaining.

What’s next: As it stands at the moment, there are no appearances scheduled for Brock Lesnar, at least if most of the rumors going around are to be believed. There’s certainly no chance he competes in a TLC Match next month and we probably don’t see him again until right around the Royal Rumble to start setting things up for WrestleMania. As for Rey, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. I still think there’s some kind of turn coming for Dominick to kickstart his career in WWE but how long that takes now is anyone’s guess.
