College basketball power rankings: Duke stays at No. 1, Florida rebounds
16. Arizona
A year after missing the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats are showing signs of life once again under Archie Miller. A solid recruiting class and plenty of returning players will do that for you. With victories over South Dakota State and Long Beach State, Arizona moved to 6-0 on the season. They have been led by freshman Zeke Nnaji and Nico Mannion.
17. Auburn
Senior Samir Doughty continued his hot start to season with 20 points in a win over Colgate on Monday. He leads the Tigers in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game. Overall, it’s been a team effort with five players scoring in double-digits against Colgate, including highly-touted freshman Isaac Okoro who had 11 and is averaging 15.5 points on the young season.
18. Tennessee
It was questioned just how good Tennessee would be this year considering what they lost to the draft last season. But the Volunteers have passed the early test of the college season with victories against Washington and Murray State. Their lone victory this past week came against Alabama A&M as the Volunteers were led by Jordan Bowden who had 16 points in the win.
19. VCU
There always seems to be one really good team that comes out of the Atlantic Ten and threatens to make a long tournament run. It just so happens that its often VCU and this year is no different. The Rams look like a well-polished team already with a big win over LSU. This past week VCU defeated Florida Gulf Coast 78-48 and were led by Marcus Evans who scored 16 points, all in the first half.
20. Washington
Washington lost an early game to Tennessee but the Huskies have still jumped out to a 5-1 record. That said they also won the first game of the season against Baylor who just notched a win over Villanova last night. The Huskies might be hard to read early in the season but the talent is undeniable with Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels leading the way for the Huskies.
