Much like the Pacific Division, the Central predictions we have gotten right so far this year are the fates of the Wild and the Blackhawks. Chicago has been trending upward recently, as they have a 5-3-2 record in their last 10 games. The team might have the pieces to make a run, but the strength of the Central should grow as the year goes along. Minnesota has also been better in the last few weeks, but they too are destined to stay in the bottom of the Central.

We were wrong to doubt the Blues this season. Despite missing Vladimir Tarasenko this year, the Blues have been the Central’s best team as they’ve lost just five times in regulation. The Stars have also performed well after an abysmal start, as they’ve gone 9-0-1 in their last 10 games this year after losing nine of their first 13 games.

The Predators and the Avalanche sit in the middle of the pack, a surprise after being two of the projected strongest teams in the Central. Nashville in particular has been a disappointment, as the Predators just snapped a six-game losing streak over the weekend as they’ve fallen through the standings. Colorado has a bit more life in them, as they’re in a wild card spot and are hanging on despite key injuries to their forwards.

The Jets being in the playoff hunt is surprising, given the team has very little going for them defensively this year. The youth, however, are getting it done on offense, as all five of the Jets’ top scorers are under the age of 25 to start the season. Winnipeg will need their offense to keep them in playoff position, and the goaltending of Connor Hellebuyck has also helped keep them in the conversation.

Next. 3 teams that should take a chance on Cory Schneider. dark
