Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 13 boom or bust
Fantasy Football – Quarterback
Boom: Kyler Murray, ARI vs. LAR
San Francisco who? After dropping three touchdowns (26.7 fantasy points) on the 49ers before the Cardinals’ bye last week, it appears Murray has reached matchup-proof status in his rookie season. The No. 1 overall pick from this year’s draft currently sits as the overall QB5 on the season, topping 23 fantasy points in each of his past three games. His rushing ability has really come to the forefront down the stretch, providing him a solid floor to go along with his immense ceiling.
This matchup with the Rams isn’t really as tough as it appears on the surface. Although Los Angeles ranks in the top-15 against the quarterback spot (allowing 18 fantasy points per game), their play has been in a steady decline. Last Monday, Lamar Jackson dissected this group for five touchdown strikes and even with Jalen Ramsey, this unit has been incredibly vulnerable.
Honorable Mention: Aaron Rodgers (GB @ NYG), Sam Darnold (NYJ @ CIN)
Bust: Ryan Tannehill, TEN @ IND
Tannehill has surprisingly been excellent since taking over the starting gig in Tennessee, averaging 22.5 FPPG and leading the Titans to a 4-1 record. This puts him as fantasy’s overall QB3 since Week 7. Like Murray, Tannehill’s legs have added a whole new aspect to his game, rushing for 40 yards and a pair of scores in his last game against the Jaguars.
Time to pump the breaks, however, as this upcoming matchup with the Colts is far from appealing. Indianapolis boasts an extremely underrated defense, ranking as a top-10 unit against both the pass and the run. Additionally, they’ve surrendered just 136 total rushing yards by QBs this season, eighth-fewest in the league. Tannehill’s been good about limiting mistakes, and while the Colts don’t exactly force a ton of turnovers (just 13 takeaways), it’s hard to imagine him having a ceiling type of game here.
Dishonorable Mention: Josh Allen (BUF @ DAL), Baker Mayfield (CLE @ PIT)
Sleeper: Mitchell Trubisky, CHI @ DET
Yes, I know Trubisky has been atrocious most of the season, and yes, I am advocating you to plug him in as a streamer in Week 13. Finally, the Bears are starting to let their third-year signal-caller play to his strengths and use his legs to move the chains (had his first rushing TD of 2019 last week). He has a history of success versus the Lions, tossing six TDs and zero interceptions in his last three games against them.
